Chief Financial Officer/Controller – Springfield, MA

Position Description 

Reporting to the company’s Chief Executive officer, this hands-on leadership position oversees the company’s Accounting Department (9 staff members), including Corporate Accounting, Insurance Accounting and Reinsurance Accounting units, as well as the Treasury function, with overall responsibility for financial accounting and reporting; budgeting and forecasting; profitability management; implementing and maintaining financial controls; implementing investment strategy; developing pricing models; maintaining banking relationships; training and developing accounting staff; and analyzing and developing business requirements in support of new business implementations.   Collaborating as a member of the company’s senior leadership team, the CFO supports the company’s strategic planning process and reports to the Board of Directors quarterly concerning the company’s financial experience.  The CFO represents the company as a subject matter expert in support of business development initiatives and also supports internal initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or companywide improvements requiring research, planning and implementation.

Position Requirements 

BA/BS in Accounting; 10+ years of progressive experience in the field of accounting; 5+ years as a CFO preferred; ideally a CPA with 5+ years experience in public accounting; 5+ years experience with budget forecasting; commitment and ability to meet critical business deadlines; excellent analytical, quantitative and interpersonal skills; strong leadership skills; self-starter with the ability to identify issues and resolve problems; superior attention to detail, strong accountability, excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills.  Candidates must understand GAAP and accounting policies and procedure.

Responsibilities 

Financial, Treasury and General Accounting Functions

  • Manage/oversee all accounting operations, including treasury management, billing, A/R, A/P, and GL
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare/Approve journal entries
  • Cash Management
  • Financial statement review and analysis
  • Review of actual vs. budget department reports
  • Corporate insurances review and renewal
  • Present financial reports at Board of Directors quarterly meetings
  • Prepare quarterly tax estimates
  • Ongoing financial analysis of company and contract profitability
  • Back up duties of associates, contingency planning for staff resource changes
  • Prepare and participate in costing/overhead rate discussions
  • Meetings with banks as necessary

Insurance & Reinsurance Accounting Functions

  • Establish workflows supporting the processing of client company financial transactions in accordance with client company reporting requirements
  • Establish controls to ensure adherence to service levels
  • Oversee the production of complete, accurate and timely financial reports for external parties
  • Interpret reinsurance treaties to ensure complete, accurate and timely reinsurance reporting
  • Support special projects as required

Client Contracts & New Business Support

  • Participate in pricing discussions for new business
  • Understand impact of resource allocations on pricing
  • Review and analyze earnings allocation report
  • Prepare contract profitability reports
  • Understand variances between pricing and actual financial results
  • Prepare reports for client companies’ annual statements
  • Analyze and calculate contract budget true ups
  • Adjust billing rates for CPI based on contract requirements

Leadership and Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Mentor/coach direct reports and support training of staff members
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  • Support Human Resources department concerning technical matters including salary planning and employee benefit expenditures
  • Assist Information Technology department in developing business requirements to support business process enhancements and new business implementations

Compliance & Internal Control

  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reports to comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Provide support oversight for SOC1 audit

•   Developer – Springfield, MA

Position Description

This position directly contributes to the development and maintenance of applications to support our business needs. Responsibilities include participating in the evaluation of business requirements; preparing application system specifications; developing, testing and implementing application solutions; performing maintenance and support tasks on existing systems; developing and modifying Crystal reports; and writing technical documentation in support of assigned projects.

The ideal candidate will be an avid learner and will have the ability to work with limited supervision as well as within a team.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field;  one to three years’ software development experience; familiarity in developing object orient systems and design using Visual Basic 6.0, VB.Net, Visual Studio, ASP.Net, HTML, XML, SQL Server 2012 databases, SQL Server Management tools, Source Control and Crystal Reports. Knowledge of Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) Web Services, Internet Information Server and Windows Services are also helpful. Excellent communication and problem solving skills. Insurance industry experience is preferred.


•   Claim Representative – Major Medical Claims, Springfield, MA

Position Description

We are seeking a claim professional to join our Springfield, MA Claim Department. This 40 hour per week position is a great opportunity for an individual interested in pursuing a career in the evaluation and management of claims. Responsibilities for this position include accurate review and processing of medical claims in accordance with the plan’s benefits, limitations, and exclusions. This position will manage claim correspondence, medical records, and respond to customer, client, and provider inquiries in timely manner.

Successful candidates will be able to work individually and as a team player, must be detail oriented and work well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. This position requires excellent organizational skills, a cooperative, professional attitude and effective interpersonal and communication skills with co-workers, claimants, and treating medical providers.

Position Requirements 

Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical and decision-making skills. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is required. Experience with processing health insurance claims, familiarity with HCFA’s, medical terminology, medical necessity, UCR assessments, proficiency using Excel, and a working knowledge of ICD10 and CPT codes is preferred. Candidate must have excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills as well as the ability to multi-task.

•   Claim Representative – Springfield, MA

Position Description

We are seeking professional individuals to join our Springfield, MA Claim Department. •   Client Service Representative – Syracuse, NY

Position Description

We are seeking Client Service Representatives to join our Syracuse, NY office to efficiently process client requests and administrative tasks for new and in-force business.

(3 Positions) Client Service Representative

Answer incoming calls, communicate effectively with policyholders and internal and external resource personnel on the phone and in writing; process policy changes, policyholder premium payments and perform other customer service functions. Specific responsibilities include processing quotes, address changes, terminations, contract changes, return drafts, premium adjustments, researching and resolving premium related inquiries.

(1 Position) Policy Issuer

Efficiently process client requests and administrative tasks for new business in long-term care. Responsibilities include: providing excellent customer service to our policyholders and producers; processing new business applications, which may require underwriter intervention; gathering requirements from various sources, including vendor sites, agency, and client home office for use in assessing application risk; creating and preparing policies for mailing and delivery to insured; providing support to internal customers and departments.

Position Requirements 

Qualifications include excellent analytical, detail orientation, communication and organizational skills.  Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year office experience or a High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree plus 3-5 years relevant office experience. Knowledge and experience with insurance products is preferred.


•   Operations Specialist – Syracuse, NY

Position Description

We are seeking a professional and enthusiastic individual to support our Syracuse, NY Claims Department. This full-time position is a great opportunity for an early career professional to work for a well-established, dynamic company. Responsibilities include customer service responsibilities such as taking incoming calls and providing back up coverage for the receptionist and handling general inquiries from internal and external customers. This position also includes operational support duties such as processing and scanning incoming and outgoing mail; maintaining a file storage system; ; photocopying and ensuring copiers are fully operational, assisting with in-house moves; assisting with the requisition and management of office supplies; and providing telephone coverage in the receptionist’s absence.

Position Requirements

Qualifications include a high school diploma (Associates Degree preferred) and a minimum of two years’ of operations or administrative experience. Qualified candidates must demonstrate professionalism, Oral Communication – Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Responds well to questions. Written Communication – Writes clearly and informatively; able to read and interpret written information, Customer Service – Responds promptly to customer needs; Responds to requests for service and assistance, computer and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in math and English.
